Gums are Great!

Do you know how important your gums are? They are vital to the health of your mouth. Think of gums like the frame of your car. Your car frame is the basis your entire automobile is built around. Everything you have on your car, including all the bells and whistles, ties into your car frame. In fact, without the car frame, your car would be a giant pile of junk with nothing holding it together. Your gums are the same way. They are the framework of your mouth and help to anchor your teeth to your jawbone. They also provide blood flow and nourishment for your teeth. As long as you take care of them, your gums will take care of you.

Problems with Gums

Your gums are not invincible. They can get just as sick as the rest of your body. Bacteria that are present in your mouth every day can cause gum disease. If you are careful about your brushing, flossing, and your diet, most of the bacteria. However, if you are not careful with your diet and oral care habits, you are putting your gums in harm’s way. Gum disease could strike your gums.

Gum disease comes in three different stages. The first stage, gingivitis, is information on easy to treat when we catch it early. We can see the inflammation and bleeding gums that characterize gum disease when you come in for a visit. However, stages two and three are not so easy to treat. We can make your gums better, but infection has set in that has already begun to cause damage. If you continue down the path of gum disease, it may cause you to lose your teeth, and no one wants that.
